What are MLB prop bets and how do they differ from regular baseball wagers?

An MLB prop bet — short for proposition — is a wager on a discrete in-game event rather than the match result. Standard wagers are the moneyline, the run line (a 1.5-run handicap), and the total. Props ask narrower questions: will Aaron Judge hit a home run, will the starting pitcher record over 6.5 strikeouts, will the first inning be scoreless. Settlement turns on the player or sub-game outcome regardless of who wins.

Which UK bookmakers offer player props on MLB?

Four UK-licensed operators carry the deepest MLB prop coverage: Bet365, Sky Bet, William Hill and Paddy Power, all holding full UKGC remote licences. Smaller licensed books — Betfair, Coral, Ladbrokes, Unibet — also offer MLB but with shallower depth. US operators like DraftKings and FanDuel are not legally available to UK addresses, lacking UKGC licences.

How do you read MLB odds in decimal format on UK sites?

Decimal odds tell you total return per £1 staked, including stake. A price of 1.91 means a £10 bet returns £19.10 if it wins. Implied probability is 1 divided by the decimal price — 1.91 implies 52.4%, 3.00 implies 33.3%. Most UK books default to decimal but offer fractional or American toggles. Decimal is cleanest for prop research because EV, overround and CLV all run on decimal numbers.

What are the most popular MLB prop markets for British punters?

Home run props lead by volume — long-odds payout, binary outcome. Strikeout props on starting pitchers come second. Total bases over 1.5 is the next big batter market because it's slightly more forgiving than a pure hit prop. NRFI is the most popular game prop. RBI and stolen base props have grown since the 2023 rule changes around bigger bases and pickoff limits.

How do new UKGC rules in 2025 affect MLB betting?

Two changes matter directly. From 28 February 2025 the financial vulnerability threshold dropped to £150 in net deposit losses across a rolling 30-day window. From 6 April 2025 a statutory levy on operators replaced the voluntary RET model. Account restrictions affected 4.31% of active accounts in a 12-month window. None of this changes whether UK punters can bet on baseball.

What time do MLB games start in the UK and how does that affect live betting?

East Coast night games (19:05 ET) start at 00:05 BST in summer. Central games hit at 01:05 BST, Mountain at 02:05, West Coast at 03:05. Weekend day games at 13:05 ET are the easiest UK slot — 18:05 BST. Most disciplined UK punters pre-stake West Coast props and reserve in-play for East Coast night and weekend day games. The 2023 pitch-clock rule trimmed about 25 minutes off average game time.

Which strategies actually work across MLB's 162-game season?

Three survive long-term: line shopping across UK books, park-and-weather research feeding into HR-prop and total-bases bets, and ruthless bankroll discipline — flat-staking at 0.5% per prop, tracking ROI by category, refusing to chase drawdowns. Strategies that don't survive: hot-streak chasing, parlay-heavy approaches, betting every night because the schedule offers it, trusting any tipster claiming sustained 15%+ ROI.
